Three Tips to Reap the Rewards of Surah Mulk
Life is tough, but the next life could be tougher!
What are you doing to help open those gates of heaven?
How about an intercessor asking for your forgiveness on the Day of Judgment!
Read on to learn how Surah Mulk benefits us in the afterlife.
We all go through waves of feeling we should be doing more for our Dunya and Akhira. Fortunately, Allah has given us a way out of our laziness. Through His Mercy, there’s nothing extraordinary we must do to ensure help on the Day of Judgement.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) has singled out specific chapters or verses in the Quran to read often.
One of these chapters is Surah Mulk, the 67th chapter in the Quran.
It is commonly referred to as “Tabarak” since that is the first word in the Surah. Surah Mulk is also the first chapter of the 29th juz or part of the Quran.
Hadith on Surah Mulk
Surah Mulk is:
- A means of intercession
- A sunnah (reading it every night)
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying, “There is a Surah in the Qur’an which contains thirty Ayat which kept interceding for a man until his sins are forgiven. This Surah is ‘Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion.’ (Surat Al-Mulk 67).”
(At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud – Riyad as-Salihin 1016)
This hadith emphasizes that Surah Mulk benefits us being a means of forgiveness.
For those that recite it, it will intercede on their behalf until they are forgiven. This is powerful to a believer because it ensures we’ll have something to help us when we’re more in need.
Surah Mulk could be the key that opens the Gates of Heaven!
All of us want to be saved from the punishment of the fire. Reading Surah Mulk could be the protection from such agony.
Jabir reported: The Prophet, peace, and blessings be upon him, would not go to sleep until he had recited the chapters, “The revelation of the Book, in which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds” (32:1) and, “Blessed is He in whose hand is the dominion, and has power over all things,” (67:1).
Tawus said, “They both have seventy more virtues than every other chapter of the Quran.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2892)
We also learn from this hadith that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would not go to sleep without reciting Surah Mulk. This is another indication of the emphasis placed on this Surah. Anything the Prophet (peace be upon him) did, we must also strive to do.
5 Tips to Benefit from Surah Mulk
Surah Mulk Benefits ‘Post-its’
Put up ‘Post-It’ reminders near where you work or eat to remind you to read Surah Mulk daily.
It’s a small thing to do, but it can be what keeps you sticking to it instead of forgetting or letting it slip away. Consider grabbing a post-it or a paper with some tape and writing the benefits of this Surah. Or a note about why you’re eager to read it daily, “i.e., Surah Mulk is my intercession when I have no one to help me” or “If I read Surah Mulk, I am doing what the Prophet (peace be upon him) did.”
When we can connect back to why we’re doing something, it becomes easier to continue doing it. Give it a try!
1. Read it As a Family
When a family does something together, they work as a reinforcement for one another.
Each family member serves as a reminder to the other. The support network creates bonds and establishes the essence of the family dynamic.
An excellent way to start this family habit is to decide the best time to get together and read Surah Mulk. Then have everyone with a phone set their alarm to the time you just selected. It’ll be fun (and maybe slightly irritating) when it all goes off together, and everyone is waiting for the other.
Over time, this will become a natural part of your family. And likely a memorable, comforting feeling for everyone, Insha’Allah.
2. Read After Maghrib or Isha
Surah Muluk benefits us all day. Make it a habit to read Surah Mulk after Maghrib or Isha salat.
Sometimes, sitting down for even five more minutes after salat can be difficult, especially when Isha is late in the summertime. So, consider reading Surah Mulk after maghrib. Before you know it, it will be a habit and routine to expect yourself to do it then.
Keep your Quran close by so you don’t get lazy. You can even buy the Quran split into sections (into 30 parts), and keeping the 29th juz (part) accessible will make it easy to read after the maghrib.
3. Memorize It
Memorizing Surah Mulk is not difficult!
The Surah is only 30 verses long, and you can have it memorized in a month without even trying too hard. Committing yourself to memorize one verse a day means you’ll have the entire Surah memorized in a month.
By memorizing it, you increase the chance of its recitation becoming a daily part of your life.
If you want to memorize Quran, we strongly urge you to do so with a teacher. It is never a good idea to memorize the Quran without having someone that knows Quran listen to you.
Someone who can listen to you will correct your mistakes and help you avoid memorizing the Quran incorrectly. It is challenging to fix errors after it is stored in your long-term memory.
