One Hadith Teaches the Core of Good Muslim Parenting
Muslim parenting in the age of the internet is tough.
Instilling a mindset that will help our children in deen and Dunya has never been more challenging. Many parents join IQRA Network to help raise their family with the knowledge of Islam. They work hard to ensure their children learn Islam’s teachings and how to worship Allah correctly.
Often more is needed.
Today’s struggles have left many parents wondering what Muslim parenting should look like. They wonder how to protect their children from this world’s increasing trials and temptations. If adults struggle to hold on to their faith, how difficult must it be for children?
Parents’ fears are valid but try not to despair. Through Quran and Sunnah, we have been given the advice to help us.
The Basis of Everything
With so many beautiful teachings of Islam, it isn’t easy to know what to focus on. Of course, obligatory acts of worship are essential for all children to learn. But after that, it can get confusing.
Our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.” Sahih al-Bukhari 6094
Truth is the core of our religion.
Learning to be spiritually connected to our religion, especially for those born into Muslim families, means we must seek the truth.
Everything we do stems from acknowledging the greatest truth – Allah’s Oneness and power over us.
The key to keeping our families firm in deen is being committed to recognizing and telling the truth.
We must acknowledge it to ourselves, even if it’s against us. When we learn to build our household on the truth, we are led to goodness, Insha’Allah.
The Muslim Parenting Advantage
Very few parents can stay consistent in emphasizing and implementing the many teachings of Islam. Understandably, we are dealing with some of the same struggles as our children.
Our role as parents forces us to strive to orient our children toward Jannah. We want the best for our children, even if we aren’t at our best. However, implementing truth in our household starts with us.
By implementing truth as a Muslim parenting technique, you’re going to find three things happening:
1) You’ll become a better person. The desire for truth creates awareness; when you stick to being honest, you become a better person.
2) Honesty has become rare in society. With truthfulness, you’re instilling the best of manners in your child. It’s the basis of goodness; without it, we lack the manners that define a Muslim.
3) Truth leads to righteousness that inshallah brings you closer to Allah.
Islam is made easy for us, Alhamdulilah. Though holding on to our religion is a constant struggle, we still have golden advice from our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him).
