Understanding the Role of the Art of Public Speaking in Day-to-Day Life

Upon hearing, “the art of Arabic public speaking” (the art of rhetoric), some people believe it’s a skill that will rarely be used. It is often thought of as only necessary when standing on the pulpit during Friday prayers.  Or for elections campaigns when politicians address large groups. Likewise, the phrase “art of recitation” (dictation) stirs up images of poets. Or a person is reciting poetry using different tones of voice etc.

The reality of these two arts (rhetoric and recitation) is that they are needed for all Arabic speakers. Learning to communicate effectively and clearly is necessary for everyone. These skills allow the speaker to articulate their point of view and persuade their audience. Public speaking for many people can cause much anxiety. With the knowledge of rhetoric, the fears of public speaking are no more.
